Digital Data

Finding freely available digital versions of topographic maps (DRGs or DRG-Es), aerial photographs (DOQQs), Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), geologic maps, soil characteristics, land-use zonation, etc., is often most easily achieved through state-level searches.  There are very few national repositories for such data, rather, it seems to fall to a state university or state and local government agencies to provide a clearinghouse for such information.  The list below is by no means complete, but contains some of the URLs we have found useful:
