Finding freely available digital versions of topographic maps (DRGs or DRG-Es), aerial photographs (DOQQs), Digital Elevation Models (DEMs), geologic maps, soil characteristics, land-use zonation, etc. can be found in many different places. Unfortunately, there are not many one-stop sites for such data, so you typically will have to search around for what you want.
