Workshop on Teaching with GeoPads, 16-18
February 2007 (Montana State University, Bozeman, MT)
Conveners: David Mogk and Peter Knoop
This
workshop was convened to develop resources and tutorials to help
facilitate use of GeoPads across the geoscience curriculum. It brought
together a group of instructors who have been working towards
best-practices in education using GeoPads. It sought to
investigate how to lower barriers to enable novices to effectively
acquire, use, and maintain GeoPads by helping them find and use
resources already developed, and to work more efficiently by not
reinventing the wheel. The end-product of the workshop is a maintained
web-site dedicated to teaching with GeoPads:

Visualizing the Earth, its processes, and its
evolution through time is a fundamental aspect of geoscience.
Geoscientists use a wide variety of tools to assist them in creating
their own mental images. For example, we now use multilayered
visualizations of geographically referenced data to analyze the
relationships between different variables and we create animations
to look at changes in data or model output through time. This
workshop will focus the use of visualization tools in teaching
geoscience by addressing the question "How do we teach geoscience
with visualizations effectively?"
